The Blackhawks hosted the Colorado Avalanche on March 6, 2013 at the United Center. The Blackhawks have continued their point record by playing 23 straight games without a loss in regulation. They were hoping to add to their record tonight and continue the streak by rocking the Colorado Avalanche with a win.
FIRST PERIOD BREAKDOWN:
Colorado brought the heat and started the first period strong. They were putting together passes and keeping the puck in Chicago’s zone. It wasn’t until about 9 minutes into the 1st when Chicago took control of the puck and pushed into Colorado ice. From there Andrew Shaw was able to score assisted by B. Seabrook & B. Saad. Chicago took the lead with an advantage of 1 goal half through the first. When the final moments of the 1st period arrived, Chicago thought they had secured their 1 goal lead. That was until John Mitchell of the Avalanche managed to net the puck for Colorado tying the game 1-1. Mitchell was assisted by C. Kobasew & R. O’Reilly. The first period ended tied with Chicago dominating in shots 12-8.

SECOND PERIOD BREAKDOWN:
The 2nd period opened tie game. It was a constant battle between the two for dominance. Chicago was fighting fiercely to score that advantage giving goal, but Colorado was doing just the same. The Avalanche was able to take the lead 2-1 when Matt Duchene scored the second goal of the night. He was assisted by P. Parenteau. Colorado’s goal just past the half way mark in the 2nd remained un answered when the 2nd period came to a close with the Avalanche in the lead 2-1. Chicago still towered over Colorado shot wise 9-7.

THIRD PERIOD BREAKDOWN:
The third period was intense. With Chicago short-handed early into the 3rd, Jonathan Toews managed to net the puck tying the game and redeeming a point for Chicago. Towes was assisted by D. Bolland & J. Oduya. With the game tied, both Colorado and Chicago worked hard to score that last goal that would essentially win the game. Winding down to the final 3 minutes still tied, Chicago was playing harder than ever to stay in the game with high hopes to win it. With 1 minute remaining in the final period, Daniel Carcillo managed to dump the puck into Colorado’s net scoring that much-needed goal. Carcillo was assisted by V. Stalberg & M. Kruger. The Blackhawks have won yet another game!
